How do I give my baby up for adoption?

The first step is to get in touch with us. Then you will meet with your local counselor. She will answer all of your questions and help you understand the options available to you and the adoption process. At any point,  you can review all of our waiting families. When you are ready, your counselor can be with you as you review, pick, meet and match with an adoptive family. She also helps with a hospital plan and is at the hospital after birth to sign the legal paperwork. She will even check in with you after placement.

Will I receive medical care & pregnancy support?

Adoption is free to you. Your counselor will help you find a prenatal care provider and apply for Medicaid if you don’t have insurance. She can meet you at a doctor’s appointment for support, and any out-of-pocket medical expenses can be covered by the agency.

Can I get money for food, housing, utilities, & clothing?

Yes, we help with living expenses during pregnancy and up to 6 weeks after delivery. Typically, we assist with rent, groceries, car expenses (payments, insurance and gas), utility bills and maternity clothes. Your counselor will help you create a budget and determine what extra money you may need.

How confidential is this?

All phone calls, texts and emails with your counselor are private and confidential. We will not say anything to your parents, friends, the biological father without your permission. Any medical information gathered is only to verify your pregnancy after you sign a release.

Can I still stay connected as my child grows?

Your counselor will discuss how much contact you would like with your child and the adoptive family. She will create an agreement so you know when to expect pictures, updates or be allowed to visit throughout the child’s life. If you ever lose contact with the adoptive parents, A Child’s Hope will assist in reconnecting – even years after your child’s birth.

Will I have a dedicated counselor?

Our adoption counselors are located throughout North Carolina, and one is close to you! She can help arrange a way to get to your doctor’s appointments or provide a gas card if you have a car. Your counselor will be there to help you pick a family you can trust and meet them. She will also be with you at the hospital to advocate on your behalf and walk you through placement.
